Click for larger view I’ve mentioned before that I’m not overly fond of Bernina’s #57 foot for piecing, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great foot, I just prefer to piece with the #37 foot and the patchwork seam guide (or as in this photo, the #34C if using my 730). However, since learning Sharon Schamber’s method of applying binding on a quilt with water soluble glue, attaching my binding first with the #57 foot and finishing it with the #10 foot has fast become my favorite method!
The edge of the #57 foot rides perfectly along the edge of the quilt. This is supposed to be the
Click for larger view same way it works for piecing, but it’s quite easy for it to slip up and over just the two layers of fabric, but it’s not going anywhere with the bulk of a quilt sandwich.
I reduce my presser foot pressure down to about 34 or so when I do this. If the binding weren’t firmly attached by heat setting the glue, the fabric would ride and this wouldn’t work, but the glue holds it perfectly.

It’s in the washing machine now, and I’ll be running to town shortly for a box, and I’ll try and get it mailed off today, if not tomorrow. After it comes out of the dryer, I’ll take pictures and post them.
After stitching the binding to the back, I use the #10 foot to stitch it down on the front side, using the blade of the foot to keep my seam lined up. This has to be one of my all time favorite foot to use.
The dreadmill is in town. It will be delivered tomorrow. Time for CJ to pay the piper!
I keep saying I’m going to figure out a way to display my quilts when I’m finished, for taking pictures, and yet I always end up
Click for larger view draping them haphazardly over the furniture! Of course the only solid wall in this entire house is in the staircase… that sure won’t work.
Click for larger viewAnyway, it’s all done, I’ll pack it up this afternoon and ship it off tomorrow… I’m feeling a bit ooky, sore throat and dizzy this morning, blech. I think I’m going to lay down and read the rest of the day.
I’m pretty pumped… the HQ16 is fantastic, I can’t wait until I’m more accomplished, but it sure is nice knowing I can whip a quilt out with a pantograph in no time at all, and still have it look nice.
I sure do like this quilt pattern, having made it twice now, I wouldn’t mind doing it again!
