Friday, July 4, 2008 at 04:40AM I finished backing up my iMac yesterday, and proceeded with the installation of Vista as a virtual machine in Fusion. It wasn’t difficult, but I can’t say it was seamless either. The Toolset did not want to install, but I eventually got it.
I now have Bernina DP5, My Label, Pattern Master Boutique V4, Electric Quilt 6 and Microsoft Money running in a virtual mode, awesome! The only of of those that gave me any grief was My Label. It doesn’t like to run in Vista period, and add a virtual environment to that… but it’s working! I was able to apply each programs patches as well, no difficulties there.
I’ve made my peace with Apple Mail, I finally figured out that the “smart” mailboxes are the problem. Once I set up standard mailboxes, the filters behave “normally” and all is well in my over organized cyber world again!
Jim is actually taking a 3 day weekend, unheard of! We hope to get some projects caught up on around here… we’ve got to re-organize the garage, measure for shelves and go get some so I can finally finish unpacking the RV basement and the Featherlite, there’s mostly garage type stuff left and I have no place to put it. I think Jim’s going to try and finalize his plans for the shop, as we’re way past due on getting a builder out here, he just hasn’t had time to deal with it.
I’ll probably do bacon and eggs on the grill when Jim wakes up, if it isn’t raining. Boy I wish we’d been able to start our orchard this Spring instead of this Fall, with all the rain it’s been a perfect year for it. That’s another thing I’d like to do this weekend, sit down with Jim and pick out our fruit trees and place a Fall order with Stark’s.
Jim is still sleeping and it’s raining, and so I’ve spent the entire morning playing on the iMac. Today is the day when it’s all coming together for me, I suddenly get why Mac users are passionate and crazy in their defense of their computers… the entire experience is just amazing! Once I worked through all the confusion by things that work differently, like using the command key and a left click in lieu of right clicking, etc… and moved onto actually playing around with the features, I couldn’t be more excited. It’s so easy! iPhotos is awesome. Time Machine is awesome. Expose and Spaces… brilliant! And the widgets… they’re incredible. I turned off the sidebar in Vista the first day I had it. Apple widgets are very, very functional.
It’s true… once you go Mac, you’ll never go back. Now to switch Jim over!

It looks like it's going to clear up here now!
Anyway, my wonderful SIL bought my daughter a gorgeous white iMac laptop a month or so ago and she loves it. He's very impressed with it. And how weird it that--I only typed very once and it appeared twice, even if I try to get rid of one of them. Yikes! And now appeared is there twice and is...time to reboot!!
na na na na...
