Hodgson Mill is located 14 miles northeast of Gainesville on Highway 181 at the Sycamore access on Bryant Creek.

The first mill in this location was built by William Holeman in 1861 and was located about 200 yards downstream from the present site on the spring branch. In 1884, Alva Hodgson bought the mill property from his father-in-law, Manuel Smith. He then built the mill on the present location over a spring that is reported to produce 28,900,000 gallons of water a day. This water stays a constant 58 degrees year round.
